Right now, you're probably asking yourself "What is Robert up to these days?" I assume that you think that most of time. Probably you wake up asking that question, go to bed asking that question.
Knowing you, you probably ask it during meals and while you're driving. I mean, what else do you really have to do?
I imagine that sometimes you even ask it aloud. Sometimes even to other people. Those other people where probably thinking it as well, so they say "I don't know, but I was just thinking that same thing. Freaky."
They may even go so far as to call it a "coinky-dink." I do not approve of this.
Well, something spectacular has happened in Kurdistan over the last couple of weeks. Spring has arrived! Actually, it's felt like Summer, but I won't complain. At least until the days come when I have to roll up my pants when I am in private because my legs are melting off of my body.
But, I should be back in Ohio before that happens. And, let's face it, that doesn't happen in Ohio. Ever.
We spent three days in the town of Halabja over Easter weekend. We ran a baseball camp for 56 boys and it was fantastic.
At first, I was skeptical. Why would a bunch of kids want to learn baseball? They've never even seen it before. But, that's exactly why they wanted to learn it. It's new and fun.
They had a great time. At one point some of them declared their love for baseball and their hatred of soccer! I think they were exaggerating a bit and I'd bet they're at home playing soccer right now, but they were caught up in the moment.
It was really successful and well-received. It was really great
On the last day, we got news about one of the kids sent to Israel for heart surgery. You can - and should -
read his story here. He went for life-saving surgery, but he did not survive. His mother comes back with his body tomorrow. Please keep his family in prayer as they struggle with their loss.
After reading about Karim, you should check out the rest of the website. You'll notice a large number of children from Northern Iraq. They're a direct result of the work of a certain someone here in Iraq that some of you know. And, no, I don't mean me. His name starts with a G and he giggles like a little girl. You know who I'm talking about.
I don't want to give too much away, but he's finally being recognized for his work out here! It's great for him and GREAT for the kids out here who are in desperate need of heart surgery, but it means he'll need to raise $$$.
Angie and I are eager to help him do this (because we are such stellar fund-raisers...), so, if you want to help kids live rather than die, let me know and I can let you know how.
